Summary

This week, the international consortium in the race to sequence the human genome made two major announcements: They unveiled the complete sequence of chromosome 21, only the second chromosome to be sequenced--and one intricately involved in Down syndrome. At the same time, they announced that they had finished (almost) "phase one" of the project, the rough draft of the human genome.
