Summary

With six military bases, four national park areas, sprawling suburbanites, and off-road riders, there's considerable jostling for elbow room in the Mojave Desert. One unassuming neighbor, in particular, has been the focus of many real estate fights: the desert tortoise. And the shell-slinging is starting again.
