Summary

The cytoskeletal protein major sperm (MSP) of nematode sperm is required for these amoeboid cells to move in search of oocytes. As Villeneuve explains in her Perspective, it now turns out that MSP, when released by sperm, behaves as a bipartite signaling molecule that can both induce oocytes to mature and stimulate ovulation by causing gonad sheath cells to contract ( Miller et al.).
