Summary

A new influence group, the Alliance for Science and Technology Research in America, hopes to copy the biomedical lobby's successful tactics in boosting the budget of the National Institutes of Health and pump up physical science budgets as well. But the project is off to a bumpy start--and some wonder if it can succeed at all.
