Summary

Two recently released reports examine how the National Institutes of Health has spent its huge annual budget increases, and what it would do with the rest of a projected $14 billion infusion over 5 years. The short answer: Its decisions largely mirror existing budget priorities. But a bigger budget has caused some management problems.
