Science took a look at the people at the top of the funding heap, examining the total amount of money received and number of grants. We found that "fat cat" basic researchers, directors of large trials and surveys, and genomics Pooh-Bahs top the list of scientists with the most funding from NIH. The leaders receive $3 million or more a year, eight times what the average investigator receives.
