Summary

The tubby protein is defective in certain forms of mature-onset obesity. Tubby is known to move from the plasma membrane to the nucleus after activation of hormone receptors but exactly how this happens is not clear. In his Perspective, Cantley discusses new work ( Santagata et al.) demonstrating that tubby is released from its association with the phosphoinositide lipids of the plasma membrane by the enzyme phospholipase C-b.
