STOCKHOLM-- Under a dynamic "CEO," the Karolinska Institute, Sweden's biomedical powerhouse, is forging alliances intended to make it competitive with the Harvards and Cambridges of the world. Not everyone agrees with the new emphasis on industry ties, although many laud the tenure of institute president Hans Wigzell and look forward to what could be the crowning achievement of his presidency: Stockholm BioScience, Europe's largest science park, a multibillion-dollar venture that got a preliminary go-ahead last month.
