BEIJING-- This month China's prestigious Qinghua University made history by appointing Purdue University's Gavriel Salvendy as chair of its new industrial engineering program. Salvendy, who will divide his time between Qinghua and Purdue, will be the first foreign scientist to head a university department in China since the Communists came to power in 1949.
