The threat of bioterrorism--which became real this fall--has prompted a flurry of reactions from the U.S. government. Last week, some of those responses began to reach deep into the scientific community, with the FBI seeking information on dangerous organisms from dozens of labs and the Bush Administration appointing two prominent researchers to help orchestrate federal biodefense programs.
