Cell motility depends on reorganization of the actin filament network just beneath the plasma membrane. In a Perspective, Weeds and Yeoh discuss the high-resolution structure of the Arp2/3 complex, which directs the formation of daughter actin filaments that branch off from parent filaments ( Robinson et al.). They reveal what the structure tells us about how Arp2/3 directs this actin filament branching.
