The control of stereochemistry (the spatial arrangement of atoms in molecules) is a key goal of fine chemical and polymer synthesis. In their Perspective, Gómez and Waymouth chart recent progress toward such control in advanced polymer synthesis strategies. Much progress has been made, but maintaining stereoselectivity while achieving tolerance toward functional groups and controlling polymer weight remains a formidable challenge.
