Plants respond to pathogen attack by expressing sets of disease resistance (R) genes that activate signaling pathways, which then induce plant defense responses. In their Perspective, Nishimura and Somerville discuss new work ( Austin et al., Azevedo et al.), reporting the involvement of SGT1, a protein implicated in protein degradation, in the regulation of certain R gene-triggered signaling pathways.
