Starting next year, the entire nation will begin to get feedback about dozens of social indicators on an annual instead of decennial basis. The new American Community Survey will be a continuous pulse-taking of 39,000 local jurisdictions. The approach is expected to replace the long form on the 2010 census; in the meantime, it will provide public officials and researchers with a steady stream of fresh data.
