Unmasking the cause of the invariably fatal neurodegenerative disorder known to the indigenous Chamorros of Guam as lytico-bodig could offer insights into major killers such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. But lytico-bodig is dying out--and threatening to take its secrets to the grave. Now in the 26 March issue of Neurology, neurologists correlate a sharp rise in flying fox consumption among the Chamorros after World War II with a presumed crest in the disease.
