Summary

Understanding the molecular pathways that direct fruit ripening will enable development of interventions to preserve fruits during storage and shipping. In a Perspective, Causier and colleagues discuss new work ( Vrebalov et al.) that takes a step in this direction by revealing that a MADS-box transcription factor is crucial for fruit ripening.
