The fungus Neurospora responds to blue light with a variety of physiological responses, including the synthesis of photoprotective pigments and spore formation. In his Perspective, Linden discusses new work ( He et al., Froehlich et al.) that identifies the WC-1 protein of Neurospora as the long-sought fungal photoreceptor responsive to blue light.
