TOKYO-- In past years, Japan's ministries could be confident that they would end up with budgets close to what they asked for, but this year the prime minister's cabinet office will decide which projects actually get increased funding while holding overall science spending flat. Researchers fear this will further tilt the scales toward economically strategic areas.
