Summary

Atlantic climate variability is an important driving force of climate in the surrounding land areas. In his Perspective, Visbeck explores recent advances toward understanding and predicting climate variability in the tropical Atlantic and the North Atlantic, and elucidating the role played by the ocean's circulation.
