Summary

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and its hospital, well known for their work in the organ transplant field, have approved two studies and are considering a third on individuals who have been declared brain dead but whose cardiopulmonary systems continue to function, thanks to life-support equipment. Pitt has established a special ethics committee to oversee such research.
