Summary

BERLIN AND WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Research chiefs from around the world have agreed to set up a Web-based information clearinghouse on embryonic stem (ES) cells and to step up efforts to train researchers in the art of working with the cells. However, guidelines on ensuring the quality of ES cell preparations, due out this week after weeks of wrangling, illustrate that scientists are still struggling to draw up a roadmap for navigating the ethically charged field.
