Summary

Last Sunday, software tycoon Bill Gates announced that his philanthropic organization will spend $200 million on research into the diseases that plague developing countries, in a process that he hopes will entice other research organizations to take up the cause. The U.S. National Institutes of Health is a partner in the plan.
