Summary

Activation of the immune system in response to pathogens carries with it the possibility of a harmful autoimmune response. In their Perspective, Powrie and Maloy discuss a newly recognized group of regulatory T cells (T) that fine tune protective antimicrobial immune responses in order to minimize harmful immune pathology ( Hori et al. , Pasare and Medzhitov).
