Summary

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) disagrees with the Department of Defense (DOD) and the defense and aerospace companies that manufacture or use the chemical perchlorate over how much of this rocket-fuel ingredient should be allowed to contaminate drinking water. Now EPA, DOD, and several other agencies have agreed to let the National Academy of Sciences settle the issue.
