Summary

Eubacteria use a molecule called tmRNA to rescue ribosomes that stall on mRNA during protein synthesis. In their perspective, Moore et al. discuss new work ( Valle et al.) that uses cryo-electron microscopy to determine the structure of tmRNA in complex with the ribosome. The structure gives insight into how tmRNA is able to function as both a tRNA and a mRNA to release the stalled ribosomes.
