Summary

Industry groups have invoked a new federal law to try to force university researchers to release data generated by an influential study of sodium intake and hypertension. The groups argue that the data are needed to verify the conclusions of two widely cited papers and to justify pronouncements by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute that Americans should eat less salt.
