Summary

Last year's completion of the draft genome sequence of rice, the world's most important food crop, has been quickly followed by the completion of the fully annotated, high-quality sequence of several chromosomes. In his Perspective, Bevan discusses the new insights gleaned with this week's publication of the fully completed sequence of rice chromosome 10 (The Rice Chromosome 10 Sequencing Consortium).
