The Draft Report on the Environment turned out to be a fitting swansong for Christine Todd Whitman, the departing head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) who's been at odds with the White House but is credited with boosting science at the agency. Released on 23 June, the report sums up EPA's view of the most solid scientific measurements of environmental quality across the United States.
