Summary

FutureMAP, a Pentagon project to encourage gambling about the likelihood of events such as terrorist attacks, recently drew withering criticism from appalled legislators, leading to its abrupt cancellation. Many scientists and economists now fear that the worthwhile ideas behind "information markets" like FutureMAP will be lost in the political fallout.
