Summary

COLD SPRING HARBOR, NEW YORK-- The Evolution of Developmental Diversity meeting held here 31 March to 4 April covered evolutionary, developmental, and genetic aspects of a menagerie of organisms. Evolutionary biologists reported that a gene that controls multiple components of skull development may have made possible some of the adaptations in the 1000 or so species of cichlids living in East African Rift Valley lakes.
