Summary

Language is considered a uniquely human trait. In his Perspective, Bloom discusses exciting new findings with a border collie called Rico that might challenge this view. Rico has a vocabulary of 200 words and can fetch an item according to a command from his owner. Bloom ponders whether this ability is indeed word learning akin to that of human babies.
