At the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species this month, regulations for the sale of ivory will be under discussion. In their Perspective, Bulte and colleagues discuss the need for economists to work more closely with conservationists and ecologists to come up with realistic strategies for managing elephant populations and for evaluating the sustainability of the ivory trade.
