Several crystal structures of the bacterial voltage-dependent Kchannel have provided intriguing insights into how voltage-dependent ion channels work. In his Perspective, MacKinnon provides a primer on how the voltage sensor of voltage-dependent Kchannels works, and updates the primer with new data provided by the latest spectroscopic study from Perozo's group.
