Summary

On page 1568 of this issue of Science, researchers working with mice show that the damage a Helicobacter pylori relative causes to the epithelial cells of the stomach lining leads to an influx of bone marrow stem cells that apparently try to repair the lining and that these visiting cells--and not the cells of the epithelium--ultimately give rise to stomach cancer.
