H-Ras, N-Ras, and K-Ras are homologous signaling molecules that are able to regulate distinct signaling pathways because they inhabit different compartments within the cell. In their Perspective, Meder and Simons discuss new work ( Rocks et al.) showing that N-Ras and H-Ras continuously cycle between the plasma membrane and Golgi membranes and that this trafficking depends on whether the Ras isoforms carry a palmitoyl group.
