GSK-3is a master kinase that controls many different aspects of nervous system development and function and has been implicated in neurodegeneration. In a Perspective, Zhou and Snider discuss emerging evidence that reveals how GSK-3regulates the morphogenesis of axons by controlling the assembly of microtubules that are needed for axonal extension.
