Controlling the interaction between an emitter and an optical cavityresonator in the solid state is of great interest for quantum devices, suchas single-photon emitters and, eventually, quantum computers. In his Perspective, Krauss highlights the report of Badolato et al., who achievemuch greater control than hitherto possible in a quantum dot-photoniccrystal nanocavity system. Krauss concludes that this work is a significantstep toward producing practical devices.
