Summary

Since its emergence in 2002, the origin of the severe acute respiratory syndrome virus has proved elusive. Now two teams, one of which describes its results in a paper published online by Science this week (www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/1118391), suggest that bats may be a natural reservoir.
