Summary

Last week, a Senate spending panel approved a modest 0.8% increase, to $28.6 billion, for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the fiscal year starting 1 October. The committee also asks the NIH director to fund a long-term, multibillion-dollar children's health study, a project NIH had said it can no longer afford. (Read more.)
