Eighteen months ago, plant researchers announced that Arabidopsis plants with mutated HOTHEAD genes had somehow given rise to progeny carrying a wild-type allele supposedly missing from both parents. But yesterday, in an online letter published by Nature, another team argued that undetected contamination may have "reintroduced" old versions of the HOTHEAD gene. (Read more.)
