Summary

A spike in the demand for oil-drilling equipment and services has added 20% to the cost of a planned extreme makeover of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program's drill ship JOIDES Resolution just as the new Japanese drilling ship Chikyu sustained damage to one of its key drilling components.
