SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA-- At the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union, held here from 11 to 15 December 2006, researchers reported new progress in predicting the geomagnetic storms that roil Earth's magnetosphere, fire up the aurora, and endanger satellites but warned that empirical forecasting is approaching its practical limits.
