In a paper published online by Science this week (www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/1138595), molecular biologists introduced a set of "selfish" genes in Drosophila fruit flies. They say the same technique could be used to enable malaria-resistant mosquitoes to "replace," or outcompete, the natural population. (Read more.)
