The Leica CM1950 cryostat is designed to meet the requirements for high-quality sectioning, user safety, and improved workflow. The instrument includes two innovative features: the CryoZone cooling system and the optional vacuum waste removal system. The CryoZone system controls a zone of uniformly cool air in the critical areas of the cryometer. The cool air circulates around the specimen, knife, and antiroll guide to create the best conditions for consistent, high-quality sectioning. The optional vacuum system aids efficient workflow by keeping sections flat and wrinkle-free and enhances user safety by removing waste material. With precise microtome and object feed mechanisms, rapid freezing, and accurate temperature control, the Leica CM1950 provides full control of each tissue section. Optional extras include a dual compressor for independent temperature control of the specimen head and a hesitation-free, motor-driven cutting stroke.

Heat Sealer and Microplate Thawer

The Thermobond 2 is a new generation heat sealer designed to seal polypropylene collection plates, polymerase chain reaction plates, microplates, and deep-well blocks with a specially prepared pierceable film or foil. The Thermobond 2 incorporates an ergonomic design to minimize risk while creating a reproducible, high-integrity seal every time. The Microsteam microplate thawing station circulates ambient air across the base of a frozen microplate or tube rack to gently and evenly thaw samples without risk of damage. It is economical, quiet, and compact.

Perfusion Chamber

The Moist Chamber Type 834/8 is a flexible tool for perfusion of organs such as liver and kidney from rodent models. In its basic configuration, the Moist Chamber consists of a deep (110 mm by 40 mm by 35 mm) organ chamber with a tight-fitting cover. Both components are double-walled and water-jacketed to provide a stable, temperature-controlled environment. The perfusion medium is warmed by passage through a built-in heat exchanger and bubble trap immediately before contact with the organ. Inside the chamber, a flexible silicone platform acts as a rest for preparation and cannulation of the organ. Several measurement and sample ports provide easy access to the inner chamber for collecting a wide range of physiological data. The Moist Chamber can be part of a simple constant flow perfusion system for testing potential vasoactive compounds or form the core of a combined constant pressure and flow system for more complex perfusion and dose-response regimes.

Stem Cell cDNA Libraries

The SuperScript Human Stem Cell cDNA Libraries consist of complementary DNA (cDNA) isolated from commonly used, well-characterized human embryonal carcinoma and human embryonic stem cell lines. These libraries have many uses as a reference set of stem cell genes and can be used for gene discovery, polymerase chain reaction analysis, the construction of cDNA arrays, and functional screening. With these libraries, researchers can begin to characterize key genes in stem cell lines, allowing for the identification of the gene expression profile at various stages of cell development.

Multimode Luminometer

The GlaxMax-Multi Detection System's multimode capability includes luminescence, fluorescence, and absorbance detection in 96-well plates. The modular design allows a user to expand into these applications as needed, which is particularly applicable for cancer research, cell biology, and drug screening. With a simple touch-screen interface, GloMax operates as an independent workstation with no need for a computer to operate it, but data can be transferred via a USB port. The GloMax is suitable for the multiplexing of assays, and an injection system is available for use with the Dual-Luciferase Reporter Assay System.

Bead-Based Multiplex Assays

The Widescreen EpiTag ERK Pathway Assays are the first wave of bead-based, multiplex assays based on EpiTag Technology licensed from Epitome Biosystems. The new line of assays will enable researchers to make quantitative, highly multiplexed measurements of important cell targets to facilitate drug discovery efforts. The assays detect key events in the extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) pathway from both human and mouse samples. ERK pathway protein levels and phosphorylation are deregulated in many types of cancer and are considered strong candidates for the development of therapeutic approaches. These assays will enable researchers to determine the effect of candidate compounds on multiple analytes to allow a better understanding of on- and off-target effects.
