Five biomedical researchers and the billionaire mayor of New York City have been selected for the 2009 Lasker Awards. Considered the most prestigious medical research awards in the United States, 76 past recipients have gone on to win a Nobel Prize. Each recipient will receive a $250,000 prize at the foundation's 2 October ceremony in New York City.
