It takes a special kind of toad to hop around the world, colonizing continent after continent. Through an extensive analysis of 228 toad species, researchers have come up with a list of traits that made such a worldwide spread possible. On page 679 of this week's issue of Science, they reveal what enabled some toads to leave South America, where the first toads originated, for places far afield.
