Summary

When the earthquake devastated Port-au-Prince and the surrounding area on 12 January, a long-running program to combat lymphatic filariasis was gearing up for a major assault on this devastating disease. The earthquake was the latest setback in an effort that had, at last, seemed closer to success. A loose-knit network of experts who have worked on the program over the years swung into action in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake (see main text); now they are contemplating the future of this and other public health programs in Haiti.
