The chimpanzees at Kibale National Park in Uganda are not threatened by poachers for bushmeat. But they face another peril: Many become entangled in snares set in the forest for other animals such as duikers. Researchers with the Kibale Chimpanzee Project have hired hunters from local villages to work with them to remove snares; they also try to teach the villagers about the chimpanzees, hoping that if they know more about them they will care more about their well-being.
