UV-Visible Spectroscopy

Jenway's 67 series spectrophotometers offer high-quality split-beam optics and a cutting-edge user interface for fast, intuitive operation. The instruments offer excellent data portability and secure multiuser operation. The sealed split-beam means these spectrometers deliver more accurate measurements than single-beam instruments, while being more affordable than double-beam instruments. The sensitive yet durable touch screen and color display, together with the sealed touch-sensitive QWheel for fine cursor control, make for a highly flexible, easy-to-use interface. Model 6705 and model 6715 cover the wavelength range from 190 nm to 1,100 nm using a pulsed xenon light source, with the 6715 providing an ultranarrow bandwidth of 1.5 nm. Available modes include photometrics, spectrum scanning, multiwavelength analysis, kinetics, and quantitation.

Pluripotent Cell Medium

ReproFF is a serum-free and feeder-free medium for the reproducible maintenance of pluripotent primate cells. It has been extensively validated for the growth of both embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. Each lot is functionally tested to ensure consistent quality. Little or no adaptation is required from feeder cultures. Because it is feeder-free, variability associated with feeder layers is eliminated.

Analytical Electron Microscope

The Merlin FE-SEM is a next generation analytical field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) that combines the until-now contradictory requirements of ultrahigh resolution imaging and analytical capabilities. The core of the Merlin is the enhanced Gemini II column which, with its double condenser system, achieves an image resolution of 0.8 nanometers. A sample current of up to 300 nanoamperes is available for analytical purposes such as energy and wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, diffraction analysis of backscattered electrons, or the generation of cathodoluminescence. The unique charge compensation system allows the high-resolution imaging of nonconductive samples. Electrons that accumulate on the surface of the sample are swept away by a fine jet of nitrogen.

Sequencing Software

NextGENe second-generation sequencing software features the ability for whole genome structural variant detection in both short and long reads generated by second-generation systems such as the Illumina Genome Analyzer II, Roche Gene Sequencer FLX, and Life Technologies SOLiD System. NextGENe makes it easy to find and map structural variants with sequence data from the Roche FLX Titanium system and short-paired read data of the GAII and SOLiD systems using the NextGENe's new pair-linking technology, which allows large mismatches when aligning to a genome reference in order to detect structural variants. NextGENe then displays the information about those regions in a special structural variant report. NextGENe's analysis wizard allows the user to choose between short-paired reads and longer reads to perform structural variant detection.

DNA Damage Assay

A novel complete assay system for direct detection of DNA damage in cells includes CometSlides, reagents, control cells, and an electrophoresis unit. The comet assay is the only direct method for the detection of DNA damage in cells. It is used in cancer research, in genotoxicity studies of environmental mutagens, and for screening compounds for cancer therapeutics. Based on single-cell gel electrophoresis in a controlled pH environment, the assay allows the integrity of stained nuclear DNA to be examined and measured. The new assay system solves the problems that have dogged comet assays, including a lack of standardization in electrophoresis equipment, control cells, comet slides, and reagents, which created inconsistencies in data generated run-to-run, user-to-user, and lab-to-lab.

Immunogenicity Assay Kit

The Dip and Read Immunogenicity Assay Kit is for rapid detection of antidrug antibodies on the Octet platform. The kit provides new levels of throughput, speed, and flexibility for measuring immune response to a therapeutic drug, an integral part of drug development. The kit leverages the Octet platform's real-time, label-free detection technology to automate the relevant processing steps and eliminate any plate-washing components. The kit's protocols work across many drug types, including antibodies, proteins, and peptides. The kit provides biosensors and basic reagents to run two different assay configurations—an enzyme-linked bridging assay and a direct binding assay—for use with human, primate, and other animal serum and plasma samples.
