Multiphase Flow Microfluidic Chip

The glass microfluidic Y-Junction Chip enables liquid-liquid contact of immiscible fluid streams, as well as investigations into the diffusion of molecules between laminar flow streams. The chip has extremely smooth channel surfaces for an uninterrupted flow. With a compact size of 22.5 mm by 15 mm, the Y-Junction Chip is compatible with the Mitos Chip Holder H and the Mitos Edge Connector. Its broad temperature range, pressure range, and chemical compatibility enable a wide range of fluids to be used. Its spectral transmission facilitates high visibility, making access with microscopy systems quick and easy. It offers a range of options to tailor the chip to individual user specifications.

Super-Resolution Microscopes

A new family of products that allow photo-activated localization microscopy (PALM) and super-resolution structured illumination microscopy (SR-SIM) techniques to be combined enables scientists in biomedical research to image cellular structures marked with fluorescent dyes with maximum spatial resolution below the classic diffraction limit of microscopes of 200 nanometers. The line features three microscope systems. The Elyra S.1 allows the use of SR-SIM technology on the basis of a standard microscope stand. The Elyra P.1 offers PALM technology commercially for the first time, according to the manufacturer. The Elyra PS.1 combines both technologies on the same stand along with a laser-scanning microscope (LSM). This combination means that an object can be imaged with the three techniques—LSM, SR-SIM, and PALM—in succession. Elyra gives users the opportunity to acquire the super-resolution systems on either a turnkey or modular basis.

Protein Crystallography

The Minstrel HT UV is a fully automated, high throughput ultraviolet (UV) and visible crystal imaging and protein crystal monitoring system. Optimized for use in protein crystallization experiments, this robotic instrument is an advance over visible light microscopy technology because its UV technology can find crystals in complex drops and easily distinguish protein crystals from nonprotein crystals (such as salt or detergents). The Minstrel HT UV features Clean Light Technology, which provides illumination with the wavelength optimized for the absorption of the fluorescing amino acids, while reducing the light that can result in photo damage to proteins. The fluorescent light resulting from the protein is then digitally recorded by a specialized 5.1 megapixel charge-coupled device sensor. This camera, attached to a unique single microscope optical train, also allows for UV imaging to be combined with either monochromatic, color, or polarized color imaging in the visible spectrum.

Miniature Spectrometers

The XR Series of extended range, miniature, fiber-optic spectrometers covers a wide spectral range, providing an optical resolution of 2 nm and offering the convenience of a single, monolithic spectrometer to cover all wavelengths from 200 nm to 1,050 nm. A new XR-1 grating option overcomes the traditional challenges of providing broad ultraviolet–near-infrared coverage in a single miniature spectrometer. With a 500 lines/mm density, the grating delivers high performance at a budget-friendly price, without increasing the footprint. The XR-1 grating is available preconfigured in the USB2000+, JAZ-EL2000, and USB4000 spectrometers and can also be added as an option on custom-built systems. The instruments feature a proprietary order-sorting filter applied directly to the detector to eliminate second-order and third-order effects.

Motorized Microscope Stage

The Prior H117P2IX flat-top stage for the Olympus IX series of inverted microscopes is suitable for all high-precision and material science scanning operations, with specific attention in its design given to assisting researchers doing prolonged live cell studies. The newest version of the stage maximizes access to the nosepiece for correction collar adjustment. Its miniaturized drive boxes occupy a fraction of the space of previous models, providing easy access to the nosepiece area. By mounting all the drive components below the top plate, the H117P2IX also provides easy access for micromanipulators, environmental chambers, and robotic loaders. The stage allows for scanning using a broad range of sample holders, including microtiter plates, slide holders, petri dishes, well plates, flasks, and metallurgical sample holders.
